Pom Color FAQs
Our customers have historically had the most questions on these pom colors. Learn more about them below!
- Bright Gold Metallic
- Plastic Reds
- Neon vs. Fluorescent
- Teal vs. Turquoise
- Iridescent vs. Laser
1. Bright Gold Metallic
Bright Gold Metallic is a beautiful color unique color in the lineup of Metallic options. It has a slight transparency to it, so it changes color depending on what it's paired with.
The image below is a great example. It shows solid Bright Gold Metallic on the left then paired with Black Metallic on the right. The center image shows both poms next to each other.
Bright Gold Metallic is the most transformative Metallic color so we recommend calling us for a design consultation and getting actual samples of color combinations before ordering.
2. Plastic Reds
Red is a popular color, especially for Schools and Universities. It's also difficult to exactly match Reds because there are so many shades in real life.
When matching Reds to uniforms, we recommend calling us for a free color match consultation. In addition to the solids shown below, there are endless possibilities for mixing Reds and other materials to lighten, brighten, or darken any shade. We can help you design your perfect poms!
Note: Shown here are our Plastic Reds. Refer to our Pom Color Comparison charts to see all our Reds side by side.

Red
Red (sometimes referred to as "Scarlet Red") is our basic, classic Red. It's not too warm or too cool - the perfect true Red.
Scarlet matches with Ohio State, University of Nebraska, Christmas Red and USA Flag Red.

Crimson
Crimson is a dark shade of red (as if a little black is mixed in with Scarlet). It is not in the maroon family.
Crimson matches with Harvard University, Alabama "Roll Tide", and the Oklahoma Sooners.

Cardinal
Cardinal is dark with a slightly pinkish tone and it is best described as "light maroon".
It matches with deep red cherries and light Pinot Noir wine.
It is often selected by teams with Maroon school colors to 'pop' off their uniforms.
When we color match, we can help you mix Reds in different portions to obtain your perfect shade!

Maroon
Maroon is the darkest color in our Red palette, with deep chocolate tones.
Maroon matches with Texas A&M, Mississippi State, and a dark Cabernet wine.
3. "Neon" vs. "Fluorescent"
"Neon" refers to the bright, vibrant color family (like Neon Pink or Neon Green), while "Fluorescent" describes a special material that glows and pops under UV/black light. Tips:
- Fluorescent colors are an option for Glitter and Flash in any pom!
- Choose Fluorescent materials if you perform under stage lighting or want that extra glow effect!.
Note - Our Pom Design Tool makes the distinction easy!
4. Teal vs. Turquoise
Teal and Turquoise are two colors that frequently confuse customers!
Teal is a deep, rich blue-green available in both Plastic and Metallic materials (with metallic shine).
Turquoise is more blue than Teal, and while it's only available in our Metallic material line, it has a flatter finish without the typical metallic shine.
5. Iridscent vs. Laser
Iridescent is a Metallic color. It is more transparent than Laser and gives off hues of pinks and greens.
Laser is a unique and more costly material. It is reflective of other colors it is mixed with or side-by-side with (like a uniform). We often describe it as mirrored or like a diamond. On its own it gives off pinks, purples, blues and even some oranges, yellows and golds.
Mixing either Iridescent or Laser with other colors and materials can dramatically change both the color of a pom and the way it reflects light. Iridescent is often used to lighten poms while laser adds more drama.
Both are extremely popular to mix with white!
